STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART
Rev. Fr. Kevin Chundi

I was in the 2nd year of philosophy when the Bishop sent me to attend the IPD seminar in Manila 10 years ago. I was in awe for the Bishop was sending me alone to a foreign country! I thought to myself, “it’s going to be tough” but in obedience to the bishop I decided to accept the challenge and got ready to go.

Upon arrival at the Manila Airport I was lost and did not know where to go. Thanks be to God, a good Samaritan helped me and sent me to the bus terminal heading straight to Baguio City. Later on, I found out that the IPD staff did not receive any information on my arrival to the Philippines. To make a long story short, I somehow managed to find the Jesuit Mirador Hill in Baguio City. I took 3 courses: Joy of Discovery, Development of Pastoral Parish Ministry and Training for Preaching.

During those courses I met many friends from different countries. I learned how to accept and mingle with them freely as brothers and sisters in the Lord. I changed my paradigm toward others and began to realize why the Bishop sent me to attend this seminar. Here, I experienced belonging to God’s people. The course I attended became supplements in my formation for the priesthood. I learned how to break through the Word of God with joy through Joy of Discovery. I was empowered on how to conduct and manage the parish community through the 2nd course and was inspired with great zeal to preach the Word of God.

I came to back to attend the IPD seminar 2 years ago after I had become a priest. This time I took another course to refresh myself in God’s word and was inspired and empowered. Once again I discovered God’s love that so overwhelmed me. I met God’s people who came with great zeal and great faith that they can do better in their vocations.

Today I know that I stand firm in the Lord’s love. I had always felt the grace and the love of God guiding and leading me daily. Now I know that nothing can separate me from this love of God. Nothing can happen to me to destroy who I am as God’s beloved son.

Lastly, I would like to thank Rt. Rev. Anthony Lee, Bishop of Miri Sarawa, Malaysia, for being very supportive. To IPD, thanks a million for entrusting me to share some thoughts on this occasion, please continue to remember me in your prayers so that I will always be strong and faithful to my PRIESTLY VOCATION.

Amen. God Bless.
